Assignment 3-PartB

Social Media and Privacy:

Social media plays a big role when it comes to privacy, and it is destroying peoples’ lives every single day.  Some people use social media in all the wrong ways, and it is very upsetting.  There is a fine line to sharing certain things on social media and keeping things to yourself, especially if you’re the one that is being attacked.  Sexual assault is a very big issue in society today, and people do not know how to handle it.  Some say it is good to share photos/videos of victims to make others aware, and than there are some that say it is an invasion of privacy towards the victim.  Personally, I agree that it is an invasion of privacy and should not be shared on social media.
In the article the author quoted, “there are half a dozen high school profile sexual assault cases that have centered around photos or videos we share on social media.”  This is not okay, because the victims are now being harassed and this is an invasion of their own privacy.  These victims do not want people knowing what happened, especially without their consent.  People should not even be taking videos/photos in the first place, that is just wrong in every aspect.  Something needs to be done to help resolve this issue, and not allowing these things to go up on social media.  It starts with the social media companies, they need to all be on the same page and understand that this is an invasion of privacy on innocent people.  If these things are posted or shared on social media the individuals that do so should be reported and that stuff should be blocked off the internet.  Then those individuals can be reported to the cops to discuss further implications, and what actually happened.  Use the video/photos as proof rather than awareness!  This is a huge issue today, and it needs to be resolved in a respectable manner.

Assignment 3-PartB

I have nothing to hide:

We should all be concerned about privacy and how it affects each and everyone of us.  Privacy is pretty much dead today, and that really scares me.  It is very intimidating to know that anyone can access my personal information at any time of the day, even if I don’t know them personally.  This can cause many issues for society, and is life threatening.  For someone to say “ I have nothing to hide…. So it does not affect me” is not accurate at all because everyone has personal information that they do not want to share with just anyone.  We all have some things we want to keep private.
Many people are unaware of how much information is not protected anymore.  For example, when you are online shopping you think that your credit card information is being protected; but in reality if someone wanted to get access to your credit card number they could if they tried; especially if you’re on the other end of the computer receiving the payments from that specific card.  People should be aware about how privacy is dying more and more each day.
I am very concerned about online privacy because people can access my information at anytime without me even knowing.  These people include the Government, if they want to find something without my permission they can.  It also worries me how when you delete something off the Internet you think it’s deleted and gone for good, but really it’s still there.  It will always be there forever, once you make something available to the public, it will be there for good.  I am very concerned with online privacy, especially now a days.

Assignment 3-Part A

So far I am really enjoying CS-408.  This class is very interesting, and brings out many issues that I never really thought about when dealing with technology.  I am interested in what else we are going to learn about.
